Zara Houshmand
Zara Houshmand is an Iranian-American writer living
in Austin,
Texas. She has been involved in pioneering the development of virtual
reality as an art form and also, with the Mind and Life Institute,
in
facilitating a long-term dialogue between Buddhism and Western science.
She is known for her translations of Persian literature, and is a
contributing editor for Words Without Borders. Her most recent book is
A
Mirror Garden, co-authored with Monir Shahroudy
Farmanfarmaian (A.A.
Knopf, 2007). Snow
Lion says, "She is active in modern Iranian theater, as well
as traditional Balinese puppetry, and her own plays have been produced
in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. She cooks compulsively for
friends and especially enjoys cooking for retreats. She is co-author of
the Lhasa
Moon Tibetan Cookbook.
